FAQ: Do I Need IELTS Or TOEFL To Apply?

No official IELTS or TOEFL score is required for international student pathways. You can complete the free Password English Language test instead. Ask to take the English test.

Supporting Documents for Your University Application

The most important part of your application to Roosevelt University is the documents you send with the application form that show evidence to support your admission eligibility.

The Documents We require for a Complete Application to Roosevelt University

Required from ALL International Applicants

  • completed application form
  • proof of English proficiency by one of the following:
    - TOEFL score
    - IELTS score
    - Password English test*
  • passport (scan of photo page)
  • copy of current I-20 and visa (if already studying in the US)
  • financial evidence (e.g. copy of bank statement, sponsor's letter - see details on right)

* The Password English language test is free, but must be taken at a Study Group USA Higher Education LLC dba International Study Center or representative's office. Ask about your nearest location (there are offices worldwide) for taking the free Password English test.

Additional Requirements for International Year One Applicants

For a complete undergraduate application, we also require:

  • certified copies of your secondary education transcripts showing the final 3 or 4 years (including 9th grade)
  • anything else that will support your application (sports, clubs, hobbies, etc)
  • scholarship application form (if you are applying for the International Study Center scholarship)

Additional Requirements for Pre-Master's Program Applicants

For a complete graduate application, we also require:

  • certified copies of all academic transcripts
  • 2 letters of recommendation by an employer or academic source
  • resume
  • certified copy of school completion certificate

Applicants wanting to progress to MBA or MS Human Resource Management

  • Personal Goal Statement detailing interest in the program and strengths that make you a good candidate.
  • GRE/GMAT score if your GPA is lower than 3.0

Applicants wanting to progress to MPA

  • Student Essay: 2 page, double spaced, 12 font essay that responds to the question: Are there differences between public sector (including non-profit) administration and private sector administration? Applicants must explain how they arrived at their answer(s), including specific examples of differences and similarities.

Conditional admission is at the discretion of the designated academic department. Some departments may request additional information during their review process.

How to Send Your Documents


If any documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by an English translation. The English translation must be authenticated as true by a notary public or similar official.

After you get an Acceptance Letter from the University, you must mail:
  • official TOEFL or IELTS score report sent directly from the testing site (unless you have a Password test score)
  • original hard-copy bank statement (and sponsor's letter if applicable)
  • original transcripts

Documents to be Sent Electronically

Send all other supporting documents electronically as PDF or jpeg attachments:

You need to provide a bank statement with your application. This must show evidence that whoever is responsible for your fees (e.g. yourself, parent/guardian, sponsor) has the funds to support at least one full year of academic study as well as personal expenses, without requiring employment while in the United States.

The minimum amount in US Dollars required on the bank statement for ISC admission purposes depends on your program:

International Year One $47,395
Pre-Master's Program $34,930

The bank statement needs to be recent (within 3 months), and include a bank seal or stamp to certify it is authentic.

  • If the name on the bank account is not the student's, a sponsor letter is also required. 
  • If you have received a scholarship (from your country's government, for example), provide documentation of this award.
  • If you have obtained a loan, provide a copy of the loan approval.
  • If your financial support is from a company or religious order, provide a letter indicating the amount they will cover.

You will be required to present original financial documentation to both the University and the US Embassy in your country to obtain your student visa.
